If you like New Orleans Jazz, then you have to like Harry Connick Jr. If you like Harry Connick Jr., it is impossible not to like this song. I have had the CD that this song is on for probably at least ten years and the kids love it. I remember listening to it in the car when they were small and they were all locked down in their carseats jamming away as much as the restraints would allow them to. Now, they ask to listen to it and we all jam as if we are paid jazz musicians. Maybe we are, but we aren't telling.
What kid hasn't dreamt of flying around in Santa's sleigh on Christmas Eve? The song tells the story of a kid who is already jaded about Christmas and knows that Santa is just his Dad dressed up and acting the part every year. He knows this because he has seen him outside his bedroom door. Then suddenly and magically, Santa's sleigh pulls up next to the bedroom window and off they go on a wild ride through the night. At the end of their journey, Santa gives the kid his hat. The next morning, it is the parent's turn to wonder where their son got "his big, red hat".
The jazz orchestrations in this song have a classic New Orleans sound, just like Harry Connick Jr. and his dad before him. There are featured improvised instrumental solos that will leave you tapping your feet and clapping your hands. Enjoy! And be happy you aren't the kid who still has to be restrained in a carseat!
